Acupuncture is Powerful Medicine

What is acupuncture and how does it work?

Acupuncture is a Powerful Medicine.

Classical acupuncture is a formidable healing art that addresses ailments, nurtures constitutional health, and helps prevent disease. Its potency lies in enhancing the overall quality of life. With roots dating back over 3,000 years in China, acupuncture forms a sophisticated healthcare system rooted in the energetic principles of nature.

According to Chinese Medical theory, the body is traversed by a vital energy known as "Qi" (pronounced chee). This energy courses through a network of channels, or meridians, extending along the body's surface, weaving through muscle and connective tissues to reach the core organ networks. The seamless flow of Qi is crucial for maintaining good health. Disruptions, obstructions, or imbalances in this vital energy may lead to maladies and illness. Acupuncture intervenes by delicately placing sterile needles or applying heat at strategic points on the meridians, facilitating the restoration of balance and harmonizing the body's natural energy. As a result, symptoms often subside, allowing well-balanced, freely circulating energy to restore the body and mind to their innate vitality.

Acupuncture is often used as a holistic approach to health and wellness, considering the interconnectedness of physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It is not merely symptom-focused but aims to address the root causes of health issues.

Each acupuncture treatment is tailored to the individual's unique health profile. Practitioners assess the patient's overall health, medical history, and specific concerns to create a personalized treatment plan.

Acupuncture is often used in conjunction with conventional medical treatments to enhance overall health and well-being. Many individuals seek acupuncture for complementary care in managing various health conditions.

It's important to note that the effectiveness of acupuncture can vary among individuals. You are encouraged to talk with your practitioner about your questions and health concerns.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a therapeutic technique rooted in traditional Chinese medicine that involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points of the body. Acupuncture aims to stimulate and balance the flow of vital energy known as "Qi which is believed to traverse the body along pathways called meridians. Acupuncture seeks to restore the balance of Qi, promoting harmony within the body's systems. The stimulation of specific points is thought to influence the flow of Qi, addressing imbalances and disruptions.

Acupressure

Acupressure is a good choice for people who are uncomfortable with needles, for children, or those who prefer massage. The same diagnostic tools are used for acupuncture, but rather than needles, only pressure, and massage is applied to the meridians and acupuncture points. During an acupressure session, you lie fully clothed on a soft massage table. The goal of acupressure is to restore health and balance by regulating the Qi flowing through the meridians.

Chinese Herbal Therapy

Patent herbal formulas may be prescribed. All herbal remedies are time-tested classical formulas used for modern day issues or modern formulations based on classical formulas.

Moxibustion.png

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a practice that stimulates acupuncture points in order to promote the body's ability to heal itself. Moxibustion involves the burning of moxa, which consists of dried leaves from mugwort or wormwood plants that have been formed into a small cone or cigar-like shape. The radiant heat produced by the burning herbs penetrates deeply into the body, where it helps restore the balance and flow of Qi. Moxibustion is very relaxing and restorative.

Cupping.png

Cupping

Cupping is a therapy where local suction is applied to the skin to mobilize blood flow in order to promote healing. Sometimes, while the suction is active, the cup is slowly moved – this is called gliding cupping.

Cupping removes stagnation in the body and opens the meridians so that Qi can flow freely. It is often used for pain relief, respiratory problems, and circulation. It is used to rejuvenate certain meridians and organs that are not functioning at their best. Cupping is used to activate the lymphatic system, promote blood circulation, and which may result in tissue repair.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a technique of scraping the skin in order to break up stagnation in the subcutaneous tissue. Gua Sha is a technique used to release blockages in your body. It promotes circulation and increases the flow of Qi to nourish the area. It is used for acute or chronic musculoskeletal pain, headaches, cough, chest pains, nausea, and for stiffness and pain in the neck and back.
